Daily Devotional: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
Don’t Be Afraid
of the Dark
It’s in the dark place that God is there. Darkness is not your enemy — it’s the revealer.
Take a moment with today’s prayer, then continue into the devotional below.
How Are You Arriving Today?
What does the dark feel like right now?
Choose what’s honest today.
Scripture of the Day
Psalm 139:12
“Even the darkness is not dark to You; the night shines like the day, for darkness is as light with You.”
God made the darkness — Genesis 1. To Him, darkness and light are one and the same.
Today’s Devotional
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
Never be afraid of the dark — because it’s in the dark place that God is there.
Never be afraid of the dark. I know that’s the opposite of what most of us were taught, but hear me: it’s in the dark place that God is there. It might be one of the main places that He is.
A lot of people get it mixed up. They see darkness and immediately associate it with the devil. But God made the darkness — He said so in Genesis. And in Psalm 139, light and darkness are one and the same to Him.
So what do you do when God Himself compares darkness to light as equal? You get over the fear of it. You stop rejecting it. You accept it.
Because darkness is not your enemy. It’s the revealer. It reveals the light. It’s not opposition — it’s partnership.
Darkness is the revealer — it reveals the light.
And when you can embrace the dark like that, things get a lot easier. You stop condemning yourself. You stop hating yourself. You stop delaying yourself. You stop blaming yourself.
You just live in freedom. That’s what the dark does when you stop fighting it — it talks you out of the self-war.
People won’t always understand it, because it’s so different from what we’ve always been taught to do and be. But it’s supernatural, and it’s powerful, and it’s something you don’t want to miss out on.
Stop being afraid of the dark. Stop rejecting the dark. Accept the dark.
The key isn’t running from the dark place. The key is knowing Who is in it with you. God is there — revealing, partnering, freeing. Don’t be afraid of the dark.
When the Dark Season Feels Endless
Bring Me the Dark Place You’re In
A dark season doesn’t mean God left. Sometimes you need someone to help you see what the dark is revealing.
Bring me the actual situation — the dark season you’re in, the thing you can’t see clearly yet, the place where you’ve been condemning yourself. I’ll personally pray through what you share and help you see it with greater clarity, perspective, wisdom, and peace.
Bring My Situation Into the Guidance Room → The Guidance Room provides spiritual and reflective guidance. It is not therapy, medical care, crisis support, or a replacement for licensed professional help when needed.Embrace the Revealer
What is the dark revealing in you?
Sit with this one honestly. Write what is true, not what sounds spiritual.
Seal This Moment
Father, You’re in the dark with me.
Father, You made the darkness, and You’re not afraid of it — so I won’t be either.
Even the darkness is not dark to You; the night shines like the day.
I stop condemning myself. I stop hating myself. I stop blaming myself.
Show me what this dark place is revealing.
Teach me to live in freedom, even here.
You are with me in the dark — and that’s enough.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
One Freedom Step
Stop one self-attack today.
Every time the condemning thought comes today, answer it out loud: “God is in this dark place with me.” Write down the moment you caught yourself and chose freedom instead.
Completion Moment
You faced the dark today.
Carry this truth: God is in the dark place, and the darkness reveals the light.
